This piece is thrown on the wheel from white stoneware, then dipped in black slip which gives a layered, atmospheric quality to its color. I carve the image by hand, and added gold luster features to enhance the movement of the slip on the piece and the naturalistic patterns on the wings.

I see moths as a manifestation of the feminine, yin or receptive energy. They are connected to the Shadow and, when seen in dreams, are powerful messengers from our psychic subconscious.

This snifter holds 2-3 fl ounces. Hand wash only. This clay body is speckled through with iron flecks, and is visually different than a white clay.
