Black bears are mischievous, playful, strong and intelligent - but they’re also lethal predators. They roam all over the forests in Western Massachusetts, often crossing the boundaries between human settlements and forest.

This bowl is about 7” wide at the top, and fits five plums perfectly.

The slip on this piece is very subtly variegated and the glaze has crazed, providing texture as unique as a fingerprint. You can see the tiny cracks as pictured. I consider these markings and imperfections as in accordance with the design and visual harmony of the piece.

This one of a kind bowl is thrown on the wheel from white stoneware, then dipped in black slip and hand carved into. I distress the slip, let it run, and embrace the individuality of each piece. Painted gold luster adorns the piece, highlighting the details of the image and the irregularities of the slip.
