The Stella Mug is named for the book Stellaluna by Janell Cannon, one of my favorites as a child that stirred my fascination with animals of all kinds—especially fruit bats. Bats are a powerful guide - the only true flying mammal, both sacred pollinators and fearsome hunters.

Stella is thrown on the wheel from white stoneware, then dipped in black slip which gives a layered, atmospheric quality to its color. I carve the image by hand, and each piece is a little different.

This mug is dishwasher and microwave safe, and holds 14-16 fl ounces.
