This mug is thrown on the wheel by hand, then hand painted and carved. This turtle has gold luster painted on its shell and the characteristic red cheeks of the red-eared slider. They are surrounded by water lettuce and red ludwigia, two plants that exist in their natural habitat and provide sustenance.

We can take a lesson from the turtle to slow down and live deliberately, building up our reserves and taking stock of our surroundings - what are we using to protect ourselves in this vulnerable time, and how will we protect each other?

The slip on this piece is very subtly variegated and the glaze has crazed, providing texture as unique as a fingerprint. You can see the tiny cracks as pictured. I consider these markings and imperfections as in accordance with the design and visual harmony of the piece.
